From the grapevine draped hills of Piedmont and across the mountains to the sea, this tour showcases both the influence of the Alps in beautiful Piedmont and Mediterranean pleasures of Liguria – the perfect combination.

You will have the opportunity to explore and compare two neighbouring regions, so close geographically yet so diverse in traditions, wine and culinary styles. The tour will start in Piedmont and continue on with Liguria.

You will explore the rolling hills of Piedmont and discover the gorgeous wine and food of the region. We will introduce you to the wineries and vineyards, including some of the greatest wines in the world, the stunning historic towns and their markets, farms and restaurants, churches and castles of a province that is both wonderfully pastoral and impressively sophisticated.

Custom Tours in Italy - Maritime Alps, Col de Tende

We then head south towards the Maritime Alps. We’ll pass through the Colle di Tenda pass, one of the most important trade routes through the Western Alps. Following the road along the spectacular Roya valley, we get to the far western Liguria (Ponente).

We will again guide you through some of the most spectacular locations, walking on panoramic ancient salt routes that have been linking the Ligurian sea ports to Turin in Piedmont.

And, of course, wine, spectacular vineyards and superb food are never far away.

Via Di Mezzo Tour - Day Highlights

Day 1 - arrival day, we introduce you to Piedmont’s UNESCO heritage Royal residences – Regia di Venaria, Rivoli Castle, Sacra di San Michele – the most scenic monument of Piedmont and symbol of the region, Royal Hunting Lodge (Palazzina di Caccia ) Stupinigi. Drive to Langhe(Neive).

Day 2 - Morning in the Barbaresco country and its landmark towns of Neive, Treiso and Barbaresco. Gentle walks around Barbaresco famous vineyards of Secondine, Moccagata, Martinenga. Winery visit and tasting of some extraordinary wines. Afternoon visit to the Mango Castle, seat of the Regional Wine shop of Moscato for a tasting of this sweet and aromatic wine. Evening in Alba.

Day 3 - Barolo day - explore the landmark towns of Novello, La Morra, Barolo and Monforte. Scenic drives. Vineyard walking, descending from La Morra to Barolo. Lunch. In the afternoon we visit the outskirts of historic Fontanafredda. Winery visit and Barolo tasting at one of the best producers in Serralunga. Afternoon at Grinzane and short visit to Gallo Sebaste most important nougat factory in Italy.

Day 4 - Dolcetto di Dogliani and Alta Langa in the morning. Brief walk amidst bucolic vineyard landscapes, followed by a visit to an artisan wine maker and a taste of his superb wines and, meet a ceramic-making maestro who will show us his craft. After lunch we move south to Dolceacqua, Liguria.

Day 5 - Dolceacqua and the villages of Nervia Valley, one of the most beautiful coastal valley on the Riviera, Nervia Valley and enjoy a combination of beautiful scenery, picturesque medieval villages and great Ligurian food. Afternoon winery visit and gentle walk through Arcagna cru vineyards in the surrounding hills.

Day 6 - Into the high country, vines with spectacular view. Visit one of the most spectacularly located vineyards in the world, listen to its fascinating history as told by its founder, and taste the wine grown on rocks. Lunch in Airole, the splendid town at the foot of the hill. In the afternoon, an original music and song museum and an open air museum - Valloria and its painted doors.

Day 7 - Departure day After breakfast we return to Nice / Ventimiglia / Turin.

The Gran Tour - Day Highlights

Day 2 – Barbaresco day – on a path between three of the major communes and amidst some of the most famous cru vineyards including Montestefano, Asili, Martinenga, Sori San Lorenzo.
Guided wine tasting at one of most famous cellars in the area and taste a selection of Barbaresco in the afternoon.

Day 3 - An Alpine Experience – walks through pristine alpine surroundings around Monviso in the Cottian Alps

Day 4 – Morning Truffle Hunting experience in Roddi and afternoon taste of the hazelnut nougat, torrone, the most famous in Piedmont. In the afternoon we move to Dogliani.

Day 5 – Country of Dolcetto di Dogliani – Morning walk exploring bucolic vineyard landscapes and encountering extravagant architectural structures by a local 19th century architect, nicknamed the Gaudi of the Langhe. Meet an artisan wine maker in the afternoon.

Day 6 – Barolo day - Today is a wine lover’s dream as we walk the vineyards of Barolo. La Morra, Barolo, Novello – In the afternoon we visit a small producer, winner of many accolades.

Day 7 – Move south to Dolceacqua, Liguria – panoramic drive down Roya Valley. We cross the Maritime Alps and stop in Limone, a famous mountain resort and Colle di Tenda, a high mountain pass between Italy and France. Evening wine tasting in the enoteca within the castle in Dolceacqua.

Day 8 – An introduction to Liguria – walking around the town in the morning. Afternoon winery visit and gentle walk through Arcagna cru vineyards in the surrounding hills.

Tours in Italian Riviera, roman bridge

Day 9 - The villages of Nervia Valley: Rocchetta Nervina and the stream ( torrente) Barbaira, a local olive mill( frantoio) in Isolabona where we meet a multi awarded olive oil producer, admire the picture-perfect Apricale and its pretty stuning setting; scenic drive to Pigna and Castelvittorio. Lunch and Dinner based on regional specialities.

Day 10 - To Ventimiglia market this morning - where the chefs in Montecarlo shop. Seaside ride in the afternoon. The first stage of Giro d’Italia 2015 was held on this former railway track line now turned into a picturesque bike track. We end the day in the village of Valloria, famous for its painted doors.

Day 11 - Into the High Country - hiking between Nervia and Roya Valleys, on an ancient salt route to vineyards with a spectacular view. Winery visit and taste the wine grown on rocks.

Day 12 – In the shepherds’ country - drive to a seemingly lost, out of this world mountain village at 1000m altitude, in the high valley of Argentina in the Brigasca country. Locals claim some of the early Harry Potter shootings were done here.

Day 13 - Transfer to Ventimiglia train station and Nice airport.
